Even-Up : Leg Length Equaliser
Share
A common concern of patients wearing a CAM Walker (Moon Boot) is the extra pressure or ‘compensatory load’ placed on their opposite limb, hip and back when using this device due to the associated Leg Length Discrepancy (LLD) it causes (1).
The LLD that occurs when using a CAM Walker is an inherent result of the design of the Boot. A CAM Walker is designed to restrict ankle movement and reduce foot loading. To provide smooth forward progression when walking with restricted ankle motion, the CAM Walker has a “Rocker Bottom” sole – a curved sole that ‘rolls’ the leg forward as you walk.
A side effect of this, is the additional height of the sole that results with a rocker bottom system. This can add over 25mm of length to the overall leg length when at its highest (deepest) point.
To overcome this discrepancy, a device known as the “EvenUp” may be used to temporarily lengthen the opposite limb, and thus reduce the compensatory load placed on this leg.
Worn over any comfortable shoe, the EvenUp allows for multiple height adjustments to provide a modular system that provides a balancing act to work alongside the CAM Walker and provide support during your recovery.
The EvenUp is a novel idea, that is simplistic in design, but extremely effective in application.
Performance Bracing Australia highly recommend its use with all CAM Walker fittings.
The EvenUp may be purchased online here; or alternatively come and see us in the clinic to review how this simple design may help you.
